Volunteer
Our work is made possible thanks to our national network of excellent volunteers who share their expertise.
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and we have opportunities to get involved across the three strands of our work: Direct Work, Campaigns and Education.
Direct Work: Volunteer social workers and social work students complete independent social work reports, used as expert evidence in immigration and asylum matters. Each report is produced collaboratively by a team of volunteers: a lead social work assessor and a supporting social work assessor, with the guidance of an experienced case coordinator.
Education: Our volunteer educators design and deliver specialist workshops at universities and present at conferences and events, fostering social work solidarity with people impacted by immigration controls. In addition to supporting our teaching work, volunteers help develop SWWB’s educational offer by bringing different perspectives to the work.
Campaigns: Our campaigns team of volunteers help elevate the social work and migrant justice voice and mobilise social workers to organise, resist, and make change.

Working on joint assessments with SWWB colleagues with time to think, write and reflect together has really reconnected me with what I love most about social work and why I became a social worker in the first place.
Working together with people who share your values and whose compassion is so inspiring (both social workers and solicitors) is amazing.
